Leisure & Nonprofit and Civic Organizations

As a family-friendly community, Cranberry takes recreation seriously.  The Township has three major public parks as well as a community Waterpark, a skatepark, and a dog park and Cranberry Highlands – selected by Golf Digest as Pennsylvania’s best municipal golf course in 2009 .  The Township’s Parks & Recreation department offers pre-school and after-school programs as well as a wide selection of skill and fitness programs for people of all ages, all year long.

Cranberry also maintains an outstanding public library offering many special programs, and other cultural attractions throughout the region are easily accessed from the Township via the local highway system.  A independent community theatre, the Comtra, offers productions of popular plays and musicals year-round, and an eight-screen movie theatre in Cranberry Mall provides a constant rotation of current film releases.

Nonprofit and Civic Organizations

More than 40 nonprofit and civic organizations operate within Cranberry Township.  Some of them are chapters of large national organizations, others are local or regional.  But all of them contribute in different ways to the health and well-being of Cranberry residents.

In addition, churches and faith communities of many denominations help enrich Cranberry Township through their spiritual and practical work.  Human service agencies, staffed by clinicians and other professionals, work hard to keep Cranberry healthy.  And every year, hundreds of individuals become involved in the work of these various civic, cultural, religious, athletic and human service organizations.  Their common goal: giving back something of value while deepening their own sense of community.

Cranberry Township Community Chest, CTCC, was formed more than 30 years ago to raise funds for some of the Township’s basic services.  But by 2006, most of those services had become publicly funded.  That was when the organization became revitalized and focused its energies on a new mission: to support the good work of these organizations and to recognize their volunteers for all they do.

The Cranberry Alliance, a think tank of local leaders in Cranberry’s government, business and nonprofit sectors, convenes regularly to identify approaches to issues facing the community.  And The Cranberry Legacy Endowment – a three-year old community foundation – is focused on local needs it can address with its accumulating assets.
