Here are a few basic safety tips for the coming season. 

  • Cranberry Township has an ordinance prohibiting parking on most residential streets. This allows drivers to see small children and get a better view of the roadway. Township Police will proactively enforce this parking restriction.

  • Don't drink and drive! CTPD typically makes over 100 arrests each year for driving under the influence of alcohol and related offenses.  The Police Department also routinely comes into contact with underage drinkers.  There are stiff fines and penalties for this offense and even worse ones for adults who supply alcohol to minors.  Parents often feel that it's OK if their children drink in their home, as long as they monitor it.  It's not. Adults who knowingly supply alcohol to minors will be arrested and charged criminally.
  • Fireworks are illegal in Pennsylvania.  Items defined as “ground and hand-held sparkling devices”, “novelties” and “toy caps” in American Pyrotechnics Association (APA) Standard 87-1 are not currently regulated by State Law; therefore, their sale and use are permissible.   • Summer also means yard work. When mowing, keep small children out of the yard, and turn the mower off if children enter the area. If the lawn slopes, mow across the slope with the walk-behind rotary mower, never up and down. With a riding mower, drive up and down the slope, not across it. Never carry children on a riding mower.
